OUR MISSION

01 Who We Are

We are a people created by God in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, called and sent to bear witness to God’s creative, redeeming, and sanctifying activity in the world. We proclaim God’s saving Gospel of justification by grace for Christ’s sake by faith alone. Out of response to the saving grace that God has freely given to us, we extend grace to all, and serve our neighbors.

02 What We Do

We worship God in the proclamation of the Word, administration of the two sacraments (Holy Baptism and Holy Communion) and through lives of prayer, praise, thanksgiving, witness, and service.

03 What We Value

  • God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ, which we also extend to others
  • Offering hospitality
  • Sharing what we have with others, locally and globally
  • Building relationships and using our individual gifts
  • Serving our community (through the Kid’s Cupboard, The Closet, and the Ashland Area Food Pantry, and hosting the monthly Food Bank of Lincoln distribution)
  • Life-long learning (we have Christian education programs for people of all ages)
  • Meeting people where they are and inviting them to share in our congregational life

WHAT WE BELIEVE

American Lutheran Church (ELCA) of Ashland, NE believes in:

  • The Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
  • Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God is our Lord and Savior, and the Gospel (good news of Jesus Christ) as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe.
  • Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate (coming to us in human form), through whom everything was made and through his life, death, and resurrection God graciously makes all things new.
  • The proclamation of God’s message to us as both Law and Gospel is the Word of God, revealing judgment and mercy through word and deed, beginning with the Word in creation, continuing in the history of Israel, and centering in all its fullness in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

  • The canonical Scriptures of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and the New Testament are the written Word of God. Inspired by God’s Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ. Through them God’s Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world.
  • The Scriptures are the authoritative source for this congregation and are the norm for its proclamation of the Gospel, guides the way we act on our faith, and live our lives.
